I find that Autechre seems to lose melody as the years go by. Amber, and Incunabula have lots of melody and soulfulness(not to say the new ones don't). EP7 is a great album. One of my favorite songs on EP7 is "maphive 6.1". I also really like "pir". Autechre has got to a point where even they don't know what they're doing. They're all sitting back listening to their stuff and Sean says: "How did I do that again?" "No idea. Maybe you used that granular filter?" is the reply from his counterpart. I always find interesting things I never noticed in their music, but only in the newest stuff. The older stuff is just almost like crappy old Aphex Twin(pre RDJ album). Shitty 5 minute songs made up of a stupid melody and/or arpeggio and some little crappy drum loop. There isn't much to albums like Tri Repetae. A few simple beat layers and a bit of melody. Not that this is bad, just that it can be extremely boring after. I'm all for complex, and like one other guy said, songs you "can't always bob your head to." Well said. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
